Emmy Huang: Yes, Virginia, there will be a Flash Player 9 for Linux
> Yes, Adobe is actively working on the Linux version of Flash Player 9. We expect to make a pre-release version available on Adobe Labs for early feedback and testing before the end of the year, with the full release expected in early 2007. As delivering consistency across platforms is a core value of Flash Player, performance is one of the main goals of the Linux release.
Woot, woot. Sorta. I’m a bit undecided on flash, as it’s an evil neccecity these days due to lots of sites requiring flash to get full functionality, but I hate the flash banners. Fortunately, FireFox has a plugin which lets you decide which flash applets to start, meaning I can happily ignore all the pesky banners and advertising. Still, it won’t be released for at least another half a year, which means I’ll have to suffer though YouTube videos without sound for quite a while longer.
