I am royally impressed. I’ve been running Xgl + Compiz all day, and it’s only crashed on me while fiddling with xscreensaver. Other than that, it’s been pretty solid. If this keeps up, I’m bringing my spare nVidia card to work and installing it on my machine there. It’s eye-candy overload, and it looks bloody gorgeous. I actually find the cube desktop switching a bit more intuitive than the horizontal strip I’m used to, and I was even able to get my wife to understand the concept of virtual desktops by showing the cube with different desktops. She’s never been able to grasp the concept with the way it’s been up until now.

The switcher could use some work though. I’d love for it to be a bit bigger, it’s a bit hard to spot the difference in several xterms now, as the thumbnail/preview is too small. I’d also love to se the selected window even bigger than the others, to make it even clearer. I guess I’ll have to try and compile it for myself, and see if I can come up with a proof of concept. Would be fun to get into some cool technology again, instead of just EJBs and Java at work. :-)
