The MPAA (movie version of the RIAA) have decided that the reason this summers big movies have flopped isn’t that the movies suck. It’s because the teenagers are texting their friends just after or even during the movie with reviews of the movie.
So, each movie with a huge marketing campaign no longer end up fooling masses of people into the theatres the first few weeks. Earlier they were able to get quite a few people to see the big films since word of mouth was slower than the texting which is now going on.
Texting blamed for summer movie flops
I suspect, though, that if they stopped making huge movies that sucked, they’d still make tons of money.
