WASHINGTON — The music industry has won at least 871 federal subpoenas against computer users suspected of illegally sharing music files on the Internet, with roughly 75 new subpoenas being approved each day, U.S. court officials said Friday.
This means that the RIAA is now targetting individual users, and hoarding subpoenas to force ISP’s to reveal the identity of known p2p sharers. The 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act lets the RIAA get away with this, as they don’t need a judges approval like they did pre DMCA.
871 down, 59.999.129 to go.. At a rate of 75 a day, this is going to take a while.
